About Theater for Social Change:
College and Community Fellowship’s Theater for Social Change uses theater to raise awareness about the importance of increased access to education and the broader issues of reentry and criminal justice reform. In its 2011/2012 season, TSC performed for audiences at Rikers Island, The New School University, Riverside Church, Fortune Society’s Castle Gardens, and The Interchurch Center. TSC performances are composed of original material based on ensemble members’ life stories and experiences with the criminal justice system and reentry.

About the Film:
The documentary, by Benay Rubenstein and filmmaker Jeremy Robins, captures the personal experiences of people with criminal history records in enrolling in and attending college. The interviews provide compelling evidence of how a college education is a life transforming experience for formerly incarcerated people. The Center for Community Alternatives will be on hand to discuss their research showing that over 60% colleges and universities across the nation now have a “box” on their admissions application asking applicants about their criminal history backgrounds.
