Thursday April 3rd, 2014 – 6:00 – 8:30pm
The What is Justice? Film Series continues Thursday April 3rd from 6-8:30pm with a screening of “American Violet,” a film based on the racially charged drug war scandal that rocked the town of Hearne, Texas.  The screening will be followed by a post screening Q&A with documentary filmmaker and lawyer, Sarah Kunstler and Drug Policy Alliance Policy Coordinator, Kassandra Frederique, moderated by Nash Professor of Law, Kendall Thomas.

This screening is free, open to the public and no registration is required. A light dinner will be served.

The What is Justice? Film Series is a two-semester long program, that explores issues of incarceration via screenings and post-screening discussions of documentaries and feature films.  Through the screening and discussions, attendees and organizers will explore the ways in which these issues impact our society, and how they inform our definitions and imaginations of justice.

The series is co-organized in collaboration with The Justice Initiative at Columbia University, the Media and Idea Lab at the Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Race, the Center for the Study of Law and Culture and Columbia University School of the Arts, Teachers College, Vice President’s Office for Diversity and Community Affairs and Columbia Law School Faculty Student Film Series.
